Support The Hate Crimes Bill

In reference to the Hate Crime Bill, there is validity to the argument that America must not prosecute citizens for their thoughts. However, when specific thoughts motivate an individual to commit violent crimes against another person, imho, it is fair to consider the perpetrator's motivation when sentencing. The Hate Crimes Bill is an effort to stymie the unprovoked violence against persons victimized for simply being themselves. This especially despicable type of violence has the potential to create another era of "witch hunts burning victims at the stake" by holier-than-thou UN-Christlike religious extremists if left unfettered. These domestic terrorists are no better than the Taliban and other murderers who kill in the name of God. I've read many on this site believe those persons are not worthy of the American legal system of due process. At least the Hate Crimes Bill would allow those murderers to have a fair trial.

I agree, there should be no need for special preferences in the legal system, but there should not be violent crimes motivated by hatred for another human being, either. The attacker's thoughts are not used in convicting the person, only specific statements that can be confirmed which have a direct connection with the crime are considered in sentencing if they are found guilty.

There is a lot of propaganda being thrown out there like the Hate Crimes Bill is an attack upon Christian morality.  I suggest Christians read the teachings of Jesus. He preached tolerance, love, forgiveness, non-judgment, etc. It is so easy to point the fingers at others whom are different, raising ourselves above them in some manner of superior morality. This is how our religious leaders protect us from the "evils" at the going rate of 10% of our gross earnings.

The next time you see someone appearing different than you, look at them more closely. Look beyond the differences to see their humanity. Do they have children? Do they have parents? Do they have a soul? Do they aspire to the same ideals of attaining the American dream of life, liberty and justice for all? All humans have many more similarities than differences. It's a SHAME that a Hate Crimes Bill is needed in this country, but it IS.

I know there will be many that disagree, but please refrain from personal attacks. I have made none... only stated my opinion. Love thy neighbor. This could be a valuable lesson taught to the millenial generation for which we are dependent to carry the torch of humanity someday.

Private Onboard Security Forces Solution to Piracy

Of course, I'm not the only one with this idea, but here is another voice of sanity and reason echoing the call for shipping vessels to carry onboard security forces, in lieu of American taxpayers footing the bill for $163 million, 9,200 ton destroyers with a crew of 270 U.S. officers and sailors to save one man against an entire complement of 4 pirates in a lifeboat. It is past time for the shipping industry to hire their own  protection. Onboard security forces equipped with modern military weapons are quite capable of defending ships from Somali-based pirates without the U.S. Navy's involvement. Blowing a few of these hoodlums out of the water with hand-held rocket launchers, such as the RBR-64 mm M80 "ZOLJA, will make their friends think twice before attempting to commandeer another ship.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not second guessing President Obama and his decision authorizing force to put an end to the recent hostage crisis. Occasionally, there are extenuating circumstances that demand excessive military intervention when time is of the essence. However, we should not consider altering U.S. policy to include policing the entire Indian Ocean against piracy at taxpayer expense. We cannot continue to shoulder the entire world's security, unless the rest of the world wants to start sharing the financial responsibility. The good faith of the American taxpayers has been stretched to its limit. India, Brazil, China and Russia are clamoring to prove their world leadership roles. It's time for them to start walking the walk. Furthermore, OPEC nations are past due in their contributions to assist the American burden of protecting their livelihoods.

During this tough economic environment, there are many U.S. soldiers being discharged that would appreciate a high-paying job providing security for worldwide shipping conglomerates. American ex-GIs are the most technologically-qualified security forces in the world. In addition, the rest of the world would rest easier with Americans in possession of high-tech military weapons versus random international mercenaries. Blackwater has been banned from Iraq. Surely, the U.S. company would be a leading prospect for contracting highly-skilled security forces to these shipping concerns. This is a  much more practical solution than training civilian sailors to become security forces.

So... how about it, Maersk Line? Are you going to put some Americans to work?

Be The Change

History is repeating itself. Wealth is once again being transferred from the middle-class to the master puppeteers in previously inconceivable amounts. Our nation's politicians have long continued to allow a gluttonous feast upon the taxpayers' pockets through increased deficit spending. However, weary of the market's downward pressure on interest rates, the elite world financiers contrived a modern financial crisis of the Great Depression magnitude, resulting in working Americans' loosing a lifetime of savings that were purportedly safely invested in 401k, mutual funds, and stocks/options. Heaven forbid if our nation's social security taxes had been invested in the stock markets.

Most Americans think their money disappeared without a trace. However, the Law of the Conservation of Energy states, "Energy is neither created or destroyed, but either transferred or transformed." The financial markets operate in identical fashion. Money does not disappear, it is only transferred or transformed. The question is, where did it go? It went from your pocket to theirs.

The American financial system, in particularly, the legalized Ponzi scheme of Social Security, kept afloat by another otherwise illegal operation, the sanctioned monopoly of printing money on paper backed by only thin air and the goodwill of the American people, the privately-owned Federal Reserve Bank, has been a corrupt, ill-fated scheme from the beginning. As these favored few were emboldened by their increased political clout due to their bulging pocket books overflowing into election campaign funds, a legalized form of gambling was instituted and raised from the depths of backrooms and smoke parlors into the light of day in the form of stock exchanges. However, the price to sit at the table was well beyond the affordability of the working class. Thus, one had to pay fees to the players at the table to roll the dice, so to speak. Never forget, the house ALWAYS wins in the long run. Everyone knows you can't beat the Las Vegas casinos. That's not a news flash. Well, I suppose the American  people have been lulled into considering the NYSE, the NASDAQ, and other white-washed institutions of gambling were a different breed. In a way, they were right. But fundamentally, the more things change, the more they remain the same. The HOUSE always wins in the end.

How many times are the American people going to allow themselves to be fleeced before they take away the shepherd's shears? It is time for a basic restructuring of our nation's banking system, as well as, financial market reform. Throwing billions of hard-earned American taxpayer money at the problem without fundamental reform, is only adding to the problem. Unfortunately, too oft, the other golden rule applies, "He who has the gold, makes the rules". The beneficiaries of these "slights of hand" have bought the majority of politicians' loyalty to prevent effective and transparent commercial banking reform, restructuring our monetary system, and negotiating settlement of our national debt. In turn, these powerful  lobbyists have lost interest in demanding campaign finance reform and across-the-board term limits.

The only recourse left to the American citizens for making amends and resetting our nation on the founding fathers' original course destined by the evolution of mankind's noblest aspirations, is to hold your voting privilege, the right to choose the individual who will honestly represent your best interests, as a sacred responsibility. If an incumbent is unresponsive to demands for reform, do not re-elect them. It is as simple as that. Hopefully, sooner than later, the next politician will get the message that our elected officials' long-ignored responsibility to their constituency will no longer be tolerated.

I can feel it in my bones, as they say. The time is nearing when morality will overcome greed, our nation's interest will win over self-interest. I believe in the American citizens. I believe in God. Together, we are the change. We will prevail!
